Telangana to double spending on health: KTR

NIMS-type super speciality hospital for each district

At least four per cent of the Telangana government’s budget would fund health care in the State, up from the current allocation of nearly two per cent, Minister for Information Technology and Panchayat Raj K.T. Rama Rao said.

Each of the State’s districts would also be home to a super-speciality hospital modelled on the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in the city, the Minister told a gathering at the inauguration of the Indo-Healthcare Summit and Expo on Innovations and Advances on Friday.

“Also, public health care centres (PHC) and area hospitals will also be set up in every mandal and taluka of the State,” Mr. Rama Rao said. While private players could partake in health-care projects, their services would be strictly regulated.

“We have promised health cards for all Telangana employees. Also, the State contributes to one-third of the country’s pharma production and we would look to keep up the growth,” he mentioned.

College admissions

On the completion of admissions to engineering and medical colleges in Telangana, Mr. Rama Rao said necessary steps would be taken to complete the task on time.

“Also, our officials have been instructed to have a dialogue with the representatives of private college management associations on filling the leftover seats with students from neighbouring States,” he informed.
